The art of Gertrud D (Rotterdam 1943) is colourful, rhythmic and uniquely distinctive. It is inviting and playful but not shallow.
Gertrud’s dedication to her work has only increased since her first major exhibition at Museum Jan in 1998. The pasty structure of the paint on the often enormous works bears witness to an assidious searching for the right shapes and colours; time is visible, the paint like ossified energy. The longer one looks the more the art works open and reveal themselves. A lot of new and unseen work (2019 – 2024) will be on display in this exhibition.
